7. Feeding pillow

Regardless of how you choose to feed your baby, their around-the-clock feeding schedule is tiring for any new parent.

Buying a feeding pillow can save aches and pains in your arms and back as you hold your newborn when feeding them.

The most popular type of feeding pillow is the Boppy Pillow which is specifically shaped to fit around your body and act as a support when feeding your baby. The Boppy pillow is available from many UK retailers, including Chicco and Mamas & Papas.

The Boppy Pillow is very useful for any breastfeeding mum as it can help you get your baby in the right position for latching. It is also brilliant for any mom recovering from a c-section delivery as the pillow helps to prevent any pressure from holding the baby being applied to the incision wound.

Feeding pillows can be used from the newborn stage up to 1 year old or whenever you choose to stop breastfeeding or cradle-feeding your baby.

They can also be used to aid younger and elderly family members when holding your baby and as sitting supports when your baby gets older.

8. Room thermometer

When you bring your baby home for the first time it can be daunting knowing that they are safe in your home.

There are so many dos and don’ts when it comes to making sure your home is safe but one of the major aspects to consider is the temperature of your home.

Making sure the room your baby sleeps in is a safe and comfortable temperature is vital to both their health and the quality of sleep they will get.

A baby room thermometer is a brilliant accessory that will give you peace of mind. The Gro Egg by Tomee Tippee room thermometer will measure the temperature in the room and will alert you if the room is either too cold or too hot.

9. Nappy Bin

Changing nappies is not a glamorous task however it is something that all parents have to endure so why not make it as quick and odorless as possible?

Emptying the nappy bin is a chore-some task and can be quite a messy one if the soiled nappies have stacked up.

If you are using disposable nappies, a nappy bin that traps odor and seals the bag full of nappies is the ideal solution, especially if you live in a place where you cannot dispose of nappies straight away.

Many nappy bins have the open to seal and compress nappies in the bin bag, making it as easy and as odorless as possible when you empty the bin.

Tommee Tippee has a nappy bin that twists and wraps soiled nappies individually, whereas the Angelcare Nappy Disposal System has a multi-layer film to keep odor and bacteria contained.

10. Zipper baby-grows – The Ultimate Newborn Shopping List

Stocking up on multiple baby onesies, vests, sleepsuits, and scratch mittens will be on all the lists of parents-to-be, however, those little buttons and press studs can get very fiddly, especially if you are trying to change a crying or squirmy baby.

Babywear with zipper fastenings is a game-changer and will allow for a speedy change of outfits which will be a blessing in the middle of the night.

Many babywear clothing brands offer zipper fastenings making life easier for new parents.

11. Baby First aid kit

You might not consider it a necessity for a newborn baby, but a baby first aid kit is a useful tool to have when you have a newborn.

Although it is hopefully unlikely that they will need a plaster until they are at least walking around they will most certainly need their nails clipped and it is surprising how sharp newborn baby nails can be. Baby first aid kits contain baby-sized nail clippers, tweezers and antiseptic wipes can all be very useful during the first few months.

Baby thermometers are also an essential piece of equipment as babies and young children are prone to high temperatures in their first few years as their bodies begin to build their immune systems.

You can pick up a baby first aid kit with everything you need in most pharmacies, supermarkets, and children’s department stores.

12. White Noise Machine

Last on our Ultimate Newborn Shopping List… the unmissable White Noise Machine.

Getting a newborn or a young baby to sleep, especially getting them to sleep in their own Moses basket can be like pulling off the ultimate magic trick.

There are so many factors that can upset a young baby from the wrong type of lighting to the temperature of the room. Some things are out of your control however there are things you can do to make your little one feel more comfortable in their new home.

A white noise machine can help drown out any unwanted noises coming from the outside, neighbors, or other inhabitants of the house. They can also help soothe your baby and many white noise machines have a setting that is similar to the sound of their mother’s heartbeat in the womb.

Letting your baby sleep with a white noise machine also allows you to get on with other activities around your house without disturbing them or feeling the need to tiptoe around. The Dream Egg white noise machine is a brilliant product with multiple sound settings and night light.
