HOW TO PREPARE AND WHAT TO EXPECT

So your session can run as smoothly as possible, I have compiled a prep guide to help us get the most out of your session!

COVID-19 update

The great thing about outdoor sessions is that, well, they're outdoors, which is particularly good at this current time of an ongoing pandemic.  Whilst it will still be important for us to maintain social distancing throughout your session, there is currently no requirement to wear face coverings for this type of interaction. All props and accessories used in your session (blankets, bowls, dresses etc.) will be washed, isolated or disinfected after each use and I will ask a parent to make adjustments to their/their children's clothing/hair etc. throughout the session, in order for me to maintain a suitable distance throughout.

The day before your session you will be asked to complete a Covid-19 liability release waiver to confirm that you or anyone in your household or anyone you have been contact with does not have or have not had symptoms of Covid-19 in the past 14 days or have been diagnosed with Covid-19 and that you accept any possible risks of attending your session. I also affirm the same upon your completion of this document.

Booking your session

You can book in for a family or children's outdoor session at any time of the year and you can also include extended family in our full sessions. I also run Mini Sessions throughout the year on set dates, including Bluebells, Spring, Summer, Autumn & Christmas.

How long does a newborn photography session last?
Full sessions last around 1 to 1.5 hours, whilst mini sessions last approximately 30 minutes.

What should I bring to the session?
Please bring a change of clothes for children (in case their clothing becomes wet or dirty) and some snacks (these can prove very useful!), as well as some baby wipes. A hairbrush is also useful for long hair. If you have a young baby, please also bring their change bag with you. Please feel free to bring one or two favourite toys along, as these can be great to help get the kids relaxed for their photographs.

How should I prepare the kids?

My advice would be to say very little to your children about your planned session! By all means, mention you are meeting someone for a little walk and that it's going to be fun, but please don't worry about telling kids that they must listen and smile, as it's often counter-productive. The best possible thing you can do is to ensure that young children have had a good nap before their session and that all kids have something to eat beforehand.

How will you pose us?

I aim for a variety of poses, so you may be walking, sitting or laying down, giving piggy back rides or tickling the kids. I may ask you to sit on the ground - I always bring a blanket with me, but if it's dry, then images look great amongst just the grass & trees. The aim is to have fun and engage with your children, to bring out their personalities.

What should we wear?

I suggest wearing neutral, well fitting clothing that you are comfortable in.  Please avoid patterns, logos and prints and instead opt for plain whites, creams, greys, light blues, light pinks etc. Although you might not generally like dressing matchy matchy as a family, for photo shoots, this actually looks great!

Can I bring my extended family or friends to the session?
Only immediate family (i.e. those participating in the session) should attend the session, as having other's there causes unnecessary distractions for children.

What if it's raining on the day?

When you book your session, we will also pencil in a 'back-up appointment', so we can easily reschedule should we need to move your session due to adverse weather. If there is slight drizzle, then sessions will go ahead as planned, as this won't affect the outcome of your session. If it's pouring with rain or blowing a gale, then we will reschedule to our back-up date. Either way, I always get in touch the day before an outdoor session to confirm.

When will I see my photographs?
At your session we will arrange your viewing and ordering appointment to take place in our studio in approximately 2 weeks time. This is when you will get to see your beautifully edited photographs, choose your favourites and place your order. I always advise that all decision makers are present at the viewing and ordering appointment, as you may find you need help choosing your portraits!

Where is your studio?
You can find me at; First Floor, 29 Station Road, Steeton, West Yorkshire, BD20 6RL. Please enter via the front door (don't worry, you are not walking into the hairdressers!) and head up the stairs, where you will find my studio on your right. There is no on-site parking at the studio, but I will advise you of close-by on-street parking options before your session. Please try to arrive on time, but if you are running late, please message me on; 07956114916.

I welcome any questions you may have, so if you don't find the answer in this guide - just ask!
