How to prepare and what to expect

I can’t wait to meet you and create some beautiful images of you and your bump.

Mini Maternity Sessions are designed to be short, relaxed and focused, creating a small collection of elegant and timeless maternity portraits.

To help your session run smoothly, I’ve put together this quick guide so you know exactly what to expect.

How long does a Mini Maternity Session last?

Mini Maternity Sessions last up to one hour and take place in my studio in Steeton, West Yorkshire.

These sessions are focused on creating a small collection of simple, elegant maternity portraits using my signature lighting and posing.

Unlike my full maternity sessions, mini sessions are shorter and focus purely on maternity portraits of the mum-to-be.

Partners and children are not included in mini sessions.

What should I bring to the session?

Please bring the following items with you to your session:

• A strapless bra (preferably nude)
• A nude thong
• Black and white underwear (bra and pants)
• One casual outfit of your own (for example jeans, a white shirt, or simple top)

These items allow us to create beautiful images without visible underwear distracting from the photographs.

You may also wish to bring a drink or snack if you’d like, although the studio always has tea, coffee, water and biscuits available.

What should I wear?

Please arrive hair and make-up ready (if desired) so that we can make the most of our session time.

Mini Maternity Sessions focus on creating a small collection of simple, elegant maternity portraits, so clothing choices are kept fairly minimal and timeless.

I recommend bringing one casual outfit of your own, for example:

• a pair of jeans
• an oversized white shirt
• a jacket (such as denim or leather)
• simple, neutral clothing that fits comfortably

These types of outfits photograph beautifully and help create relaxed, natural maternity portraits.

During your session we may also use one of my studio fabrics or dresses to create a more classic maternity look.

Neutral tones such as cream, beige, black, rust and other soft earthy colours work best and help keep your photographs looking timeless.

How will I pose?

Most people feel a little unsure about being photographed – and that’s completely normal!

You won’t need to worry about posing at all. I will guide you through every pose step-by-step, helping with hand placement, posture, body positioning and expression so that you feel comfortable and confident.

My aim is always to create images that feel natural, flattering and relaxed.

Do I have to take my clothes off?

Only if you’d like to.

Many maternity portraits look beautiful when they highlight the natural shape of your bump, which can sometimes mean using simple fabrics, fitted clothing or artistic silhouettes.

However, you will never be asked to do anything you feel uncomfortable with, and we will only create images that you are happy with.

When will I see my photographs?

At the end of your session we will arrange your Viewing & Ordering Appointment, which usually takes place around 2–3 weeks later.

At this appointment you will return to the studio to view your beautifully edited gallery of approximately 10–12 images and choose your favourite photographs.

Your Mini Maternity Session includes 3 fully retouched digital images, with the option to upgrade to a larger collection if you wish.

When will I receive my images?

Once you have selected your images at your Viewing & Ordering Appointment, your digital images will usually be delivered within approximately one week via an online download link.

If you choose to purchase any prints or wall art, these will be ready for collection from the studio around 3–6 weeks later depending on the product ordered.

Feeling unwell?

If you (or anyone in your household) are feeling unwell before your session, please contact me to rearrange your appointment.

Where illness is contagious or involves sickness or fever, please follow the 48-hour symptom-free rule before attending the studio.

Need to reschedule?

If you need to reschedule your session, please let me know as soon as possible.

Mini maternity sessions are offered on limited dates, so any rescheduling will be subject to studio availability.
